The beginning of November saw two big news stories from the ESPGHAN Committee on Nutrition; firstly, the updated consensus-based conclusions and recommendations on nutrient intakes and nutritional management for preterm infants was published, with Magnus Domellöf as the last author.
More information on these updated European guidelines published in the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition can be found here.
“This is the update of the previous guidelines from 2010 and the nutritional recommendations have been expanded with clinical recommendations. We are very happy to present these guidelines, which have been in the works since before the Covid pandemic.” said Prof Magnus Domellöf, co-author of the updated guidelines.
Secondly, a four-week online long course, based on the new guidelines; ‘Enteral Nutrition in Preterm Infants: ESPGHAN Recommendations’ has also been launched in collaboration with Future Learn.
The first course starts on 14 November 2022 and is aimed at doctors and dietitians working in neonatal units, but will also be useful for medical staff, students, nursing staff, pharmacists, and dietetic students.
More information on the course and how to enroll can be found here.
”This is a novel concept and we hope that the course will help disseminate the guidelines and that it will be a real help for clinicians”, said Prof Magnus Domellöf who helped develop the course material together with Nicholas Embleton and Sissel Moltu.
